Mount Defiance 2013-08-16

We started from the Ira Springs trail head, 9.7 miles and 3,950 feet of elevation gain.  We went up the old trail and came down the new trail.

One time we were at this trail head on a nice sunny weekend and almost didn't make it out of the parking area.  The parking area had filled up while we were hiking, and people started parking on BOTH sides of the SINGLE lane gravel road leading to the parking area. At one point the driver's side mirror just missed a car and at the same time the passenger side mirror passed over the top of a car's mirror.

At the junction of the Thompson Lake trail and the boot path up to the summit of Mt Defiance.  Putrid Pete's Peak is the first point on the ridge in the back ground.  You can make a loop by going up a boot path on the left side of the ridge to Pete's and then follow the top of the ridge over to Thompson Lake trail by Mt Defiance.

Looking down on Mason Lake and Little Mason Lake.

 Mt Rainier in the clouds.

On top of Mt Defiance looking towards the Stuart Range.

Revolution Peak is on the right and the cabin we went to on our last attempt is the little white dot on the left side at the end of the old road.

Looking south at Kent's Court, Duke of Kent. Mt Kent, and McClellan Butte.

Looking back up to Mt Defiance during our descent on the new trail.
