Malcolm Mountain 2013-09-01

12.6 Miles and 3,478 feet of elevation gain.

This was a nice quite hike, didn't see anyone.  Unfortunately the trail has been torn up by motorcycles except the portion that runs along the ridge by Malcolm Mt.

The ridge trail from the Johnson Medra trail and Koppen Mt trail intersection is very hard to follow and I always loose it around where the ridge splits.  You can see the jog on the map.

The trail head.

On the trail.

The ridge we will be hiking on.

Getting closer to the ridge.

Looking back on the the valley we came up.

Taking a break in the shade.

A little point just before the ridge.

The intersection with the Koppen Mt trail.

One of the bumps along the ridge.

Malcolm Mt

Another bump along the ridge.

A camp, complete with a cast iron stove, on the short trail to Malcolm Mt.

The last ridge to Malcolm Mt.

Shortly after entering the trees the trail split.  We took the more traveled trail and found the beginning of Medra Creek.  Someone had installed some water collections tubs that allowed the dogs to have a well deserved drink and a break.  We also stopped on our way down and I filled a bottle for later.

On top of Malcolm Mt looking at the Stuart Range.

Not much of a Mt Rainier shot on today's hike.

A placard on top of the mountain.

It's a tough life for a tree on the ridge.

Coming the ridge.

Loose rocks and dirt on solid rock, not the best footing.

New trail sign on the sign eating tree at the intersection with Jungle Creek trail and Way Creek trail.

Back at the intersection with the Johnson Medra trail.

Looking down on Blue in Johnson Creek at the trail head.

The bridge at the trail head.
