Hiked up to the location where a fire lookout once existed. Only portions of the foundation remain. On the return trip we followed a boot path that was on top of the ridge. It was a nice ridge walk until we hit a rock outcrop and could not find an obvious path around it. We did not feel comfortable trying to scramble over the top with the dogs. We followed what we thought might be the path but was probably just a deer path. By this time it was late in day with sunset approaching, it was time to get back to the main trail. The GPS showed a saddle in the ridge not too far ahead. When we crossed over we did see the boot path was on top of the ridge. It was an easy hike down the hill to the tail. We finished just as it was getting dark.
